Why would a mother do this?

What kind of an abysmal show is Pati Patni Aur woh?  What the hell is NDTV imagine out to achieve? Why are TV shows getting so regressive? And the MOST important question- What in God’s name were the parents thinking? How the hell could a mother give away her baby, and for heaven’s sakes, a BABY, to these  so called stars, or for that matter, any darned stranger?

I am so appalled at the very format of this show. Are you watching this crap? Will you turn off the TV, please?

Besides, why would an audience want to watch real time couples going about their lives? What’s so darned interesting about that? Haven’t you enough to deal with in your daily lives, yourselves? Don’t you have children to play with, a partner to have a conversation with, friends to hang out with, books to read, chores to complete, parents to spend time with, star gaze, read stories to your toddler, music to listen to…? Why would you want to waste your time watching such utterly harebrained shows? Don’t you think there is so much more to life than revolting television shows, that creates enough and more hungama in our otherwise normal lives?

I hear there have been protests against this show to go off air. And i read here that the show won’t go off air until it gets a Government notice( Gayi bhayns paani mein) .What I don’t understand is, how did this even go ON AIR. By the sound of it, itself, it sounds illegal, then how on earth did this manage to get aired. And to my horror, I see people enjoying these shows. Imagine the impression it can have on young minds!

Sometimes I think, media and broadcasting should be completely Govt’s prerogative. I know, I know… but see what happens with privatization.

I am totally dismayed…and this is such a sad thing.

You know KG, thanks for writing this. I was so angry after seeing some of the promotional clips in other channel that i wanted to write this badly but just did not had words, was seething in anger (you know the promotional clips of such shows are aired on prime news channels!!are the news channels running short of advertisement?? Or these is after all mil batke khane ka)

The clips I saw showed a baby crying incessantly and Rakhi sawant and that guy was trying to feed the baby. Some babies even dont go to strangers at the very first time, and here this little sweet living being is going through all these without being realizing the parents are doing this for money and probably stardom. I was feeling so disgusted hearing those crying sounds, I just switched off my TV.I wonder when these kids will grow up and see this, will they ever forgive their parents?

OH I so agree... I didnt know such a show exists.. Last week, I happened to switch on the TV.. and there Rakhee S and that guy of hers... with a baby that didnt stop crying.. Then on the other side I saw the mom crying.. What was she even thinking when she gave her baby to Rakhee...

What are these people trying to acheive.. Then I saw another girl struggling with diapers... for heavens sake... Do other young mothers go to 'Be a Mommy School' to learn to change diapers??? I was shocked... Do these people have not younger bros or sis... who they ever looked after...

Thank God its going off air... India is taking these reality shows to a new extreme!!! I am disgusted!!

Hey...I watched this show for the first time yesterday...and I was so shocked my it's imbecile nature...I mean it's absolute degradation of television, and I think broadcast media does not have the bloody right to undermine the intelligence-level of television audience like this.

I saw the trailers and was thinking - what sort of audience are they targeting - cos I cant think of anyone I know who will not be put off by such a show !

oh well - thats what I thought of Rakhi ka Swayamvar too - but I knew a few people who were glued to that show *sigh*

Agree with you on shows getting more regressive in India (people too, imho). When I went back in July after being away for 4 and a half years, I was appalled. I thought the saas-bahu serials by Ekta Kappor were bad about 5 years ago but it's gotten worse now with some shows about child marriage actually having the highest ratings!!! It's totally effed up! And then they made a hue and cry about 'Sach ka Samna'. I don't like reality telly and think it's a shit show, but these other regressive hindi serials are much worse. Haven't seen the program you have mentioned though...

And all this while, I thought it couldn't get worse than "Wife Swap" on Aussie TV. Reality television never fails to shock! This is by far the worst of all...similar to The Baby Borrowers that they run on Aussie TV, where babies are loaned out to inexperienced teenagers, who can hardly take care of themselves!

The things people can do for some money !I am appalled at the irresponsibility of these parents that have handed a young and precious life, completely over into the in-adept hands of these celeb strangers! It just makes it worse that they know nothing abt parenting themselves, and firstly how can such a show even be approved to be made! What is happening to our Indian TV culture! tch! Scared to say the least!
@mustaf: I dont subscribe to Indian channels here and I thankfully didnt get to see any of those ads.

NDTV, Imagine!!!

@pat: babe, precisely my point too. that mother who was crying..what was she trying to prove..that she has a heart too? such irresponsible idiots.

@debanjana: Intelligence levels and tolerance levels too.

@discovering m: oh yeah, we undermine a lot of things. swayamvar was a HUGE hit. and now this. TV is just feeding the devil in us.

@psych babbler: am glad u havent caught a gglimpse of it yet. not one cent worth your precious time. you'll lose your semblance of mind, I tell you, gal. Stay away and keep your cool :).

@scribbler: i HATE television. reality, fiction whatever. Unless its a movie, i don't watch telly. I know there are a lot of good stuff too, but I just can't buy TV any more. The only thing i watch is news. And now u say aussie tv too telecasts such trash..so its a universal phenomenon then. And i wont be surprised if the indian version is a lift.

Then we talk about Indian Family Values!! :(

This was so shocking, I can't imagine what kind of people watch this, what kind of people make it, and more than anybody else, what kind of parents allow their babies to be treated so cruelly...

i'm so glad you wrote about this. I was horrified to hear of it although I didn't catch it on air. TV is pretty much banned in my house and I guess you can see why!

I've been reading about this all across the web. it's horrifying. where did they get the babies from? which god forsaken parent dumb their baby in the laps of these moron. for some money..people will sell anything!! it's appalling. India is blindly following the west. there is a similar show here called Jon and Kate though the kids in this show are the couple's own (or so I think...)

I think this show should be banned immediately! You have 6 toddlers crying away with their faces red in anger and frustation as the participants try and figure out whats wrong with them and what they require. These bloody reality shows need to be control in terms of their content and concept. I know creativity needs freedom but this is stretching it beyond limits man. Its horrible.

May be they are showing the mothers crying to prove that the show is so REAL that the babies are actually crying and it is not Fake!!

After reading two bloggers write about it, I youtubed a video of this show and oh the horror! the baby is around 8 months and given to Rakhi Sawant and her new 'swayamwared' fiance. They have no clue on how to take care of the kid.

I couldn't stand to watch it for long. How can parents do this? All for money? How greedy are people? Would they even sell their children for money?

Even though there was some notice issued, the channel of course got the approval so the show will go on.

I just wish social service in India is strong enough to sue those parents and take the baby away. Down with such stupid shows in the name of reality. There is always Swayamvar and Bigg Boss for people to enjoy. Why torturing poor babies?
