Sid's Kalyanam

We thought the relatives had confused the wedding for the new years eve. Why else would they be hugging and crying tears of joy when Sid tied the noose...i mean the Thaali(Mangalsutra) around Remya's neck. God it was a spectacle I wouldn't have missed for anything in this world. About a 100 Maamis and Paatis came lunging towards the bride and groom - some hugged, some kissed whichever part of the bride/groom was accesible, some ruffled Sid's hair, some patted his face and some squeezed Remya's hand...they cried, hugged, smiled, laughed, shook hands and clapped with glee! It reminded me of my school annual day when 'Lillies house' has won the shield for the all rounder of the year and I was the house captain. All of us behaved in exactly the same way.....
Jokes apart, it was indeed touching to see the kind of fan fare sid enjoyed amongst his relatives. They are really thick, i must say...maaan. It was something.

It was the first ever Iyer wedding I attended in my life. I had to attend this one and thanks to the worm my tickets were booked and off i flew to Mumbai to attend the most talked-about wedding in our friend circle. I wanted to see them all - Sid in his Sambar coloured bead work out fit and his green suit and the Kashi yatra. I wanted to be there. I missed the iyer-mehendi but managed the wedding and reception.
The highlights for the ones who missed out:

- Sid looked outstanding in his topless with dhoti avataar.
- The kaala teeka on Sid's cheek made him look like a thief- apparently the purpose of the teeka was to ward all the bura nazar off Sid. Now workie obviously had to add to that- 'the height of optimism ' he said.
-Seemed like there was more crowd who attended the wedding from out station that mumbaikaars themselves- the reason is simple- the location - Goregaon.
- Apparently the coconut game was fun - we missed that- the worm just couldn't help but marvel at their enthusiasm....coconut rolling game after all those rituals???
-Sid was comparatively at ease in the reception- guess he couldn't hide his glee ...just thinking about the forthcoming night was making him all happy.
-Vikki was seen desperately seeking antacid to every soul present in the wedding. Finally he relieved himself in Tewary's office at mid night.
-The worm was spotted running from pillar to post with vinnie and two girls searching for 'nice smelling flowers' at 9 pm to decorate Sid's suhaag raat bed.
-The filter coffee was phenomenal
-Joy forgot her gift for sid in wormie's place
-I got smothered with kisses by aunty and uncle
-I managed to surprise sid

Other highlights:
- Joy missed her 6 am flight
- The worm made vinnie pay for his Fab India shirt
- Vinnie was on time to take his 9 am flight
- Vivek now has a paunch
- Tewary's pilot was a brave attempt
- Vikki still wears that blue wind cheater and curls his hair
- All that Biyani talk was enlightening
- I poured the vodka down the drain below in Tewary's sink - i sipped on water the rest of the evening
-Joy couldn't stop yawning and as usual was on the phone through out the evening
-I owe a ton of money to the worm
- My slip disc has slipped further thanks to the bandra-goregaon-goregaon-bandra trips

But in all, a completely (un)forgettable trip.
