Parallels - Marley and Meeshu

I picked up Marley and Me, to re-live moments shared with Coffee, our month old Lab, who we had to give away ,coz we weren't ready for a pet (are we now??).Also Marley looked sooo much like coffee. The more i read the book, the more I wanna go bring home a lab. If there is any place i want to escape to right now, its in to the book. I have never laughed so heartily on reading a book (one reason could be that i ALWAYS pick up these really gloomy and poignant books by authors who leave a little too much to think about...and Raj detests such books, let alone gloomy movies). This Non fiction is about a couple's experiences with their completely frenzied and lunatic, yet thoroughly lovable lab, Marley (yes, Bob Marley's namesake).

In more ways than one Marley reminds me of our daughter Meeshu. For one, both their names begin with the same alphabet :D ! Really. The more i read about Marley's antics, the comparison becomes more apparent. Marley's lunacy, his recklessness, his charm, his disobedience, and his eyes which always seem to say, 'yo baby! can we tear that again'? or 'can we please, please break that vase again'??!

Meeshu, like Marley, takes immense pleasure in doing all things strictly forbidden. And she too always looks up at me with those abysmally cute eyes begging me for more Gems, begging me to help her climb the wall and more such inadmissible things for an 18 month old.

Yet, how adorable are these tiny rascals!

John and Jenny's love and trepidation for Marley runs parallel to our story with Meeshu. But Meeshu's love for this breed of pets will soon make us get home a real Kuku for her. Then, i will settle down to write 'Meeshu, Coffee and Me', only the base line won't read 'Life and love with the world's worst dog'...instead it will go something like this....'Life and love with
the world's most terrifying scalavags'.

Marley and Me is a recommended read for all you dog lovers, for its narration of rib tickling experiences with the cur. All those who want to own a lab must read this for its interesting depiction of facts about Labrador retrievers - they are really fascinating. And finally, all those dealing with anything naughty and mad, yet
completely cute must must pick a copy today! I know i am gonna cry when
the book ends...i don't want Marley to die :(

Signing off with an excerpt from the book:

"Before we were fully out of the car, Marley spotted the other dogs gathering with their ownersacross the tarmac. A party! He leaped over us and out of the car and was off in a tear, his leash dragging behind him. He darted from one dog to the next sniffing private parts, dribbling pee, and flinging huge wads of spits through the air. For Marley it was a festival of smells- so many
genitals, so little time-and he was seizing the moment, being careful to stay just ahead of me as i raced after him. Each time i was nearly upon him, he wouldscoot a few feet further away. I finally got within a striking distance and took a giant leap, landing hard with both feet on his leash. This brought him to a jolting halt....he jerked backward, landed on his back, flipped around, and gazed up at me with the serene expression of a heroin addict who had just gotten his fix...."

Ps: in a wierd way, John and Jenny remind me os us- Raj and me. (Now, this will compell the man to read the book...hehe)

You better be careful! Meeshu is going to learn to read soon, and she may not take very kindly to the comparison! :)
